Celebrating Another Successful Science Rendezvous

Science Rendezvous 2025 Volunteers
Future Energy Systems and the Energy Explorers were back at the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton this past Saturday for our fourth annual participation in the Science Rendezvous science festival. Research demonstrations, Energy Explorers, and Energy Adventures playing cards were spread throughout the science centre as 1,243 attendees enjoyed an afternoon of energy science fun.
Science Rendezvous is Canada’s largest national single-day science festival with events across Canadian university campuses and science centres. Since 2022, Future Energy Systems has partnered with the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton to deliver educational energy research programming connected to our series of educational storybooks, The Energy Adventures of Tommy and Remi. Learn more about FES’ partnership with Science Rendezvous.
This year’s Science Rendezvous festival theme was “Wonder” and the Energy Explorers definitely delivered on that front; Science Rendezvous visitors could be found in wonderment across the Health Zone, Arctic Zone, lobby, and Space Zone. No demonstration was left untouched and no researcher left unquestioned. A special edition Energy Adventures playing card—featuring Tommy and Remi in space—was a new introduction to this year’s roster, and a big hit with connecting to attendees.
In terms of connecting, the Energy Explorers program was recognized earlier in the week for their contributions to building connections across the University of Alberta and Edmonton communities. Dr. Valerie Miller, FES Outreach & Engagement Lead, accepted the Community Leader - Team award at the U of A’s 2025 Community Connection Awards.
If you missed FES and the Energy Explorers at Science Rendezvous this past weekend, they’ll be back at the K-Days Sustainability Innovation Zone (July 25-27, 2025) with their demonstrations and energy research expertise.
